A conference seeking a consensus on the ASEAN Credit Transfer System (ACTS), which enables students move from one university to another in the region, opened in Ho Chi Minh City on January 19.

Under the planned system, 22 leading universities in ASEAN can also exchange their students for a term or shorter time.

ACTS is very important and necessary as it is a bridge linking universities in the region, said Associate Professor-Doctor Phan Thanh Binh from the Ho Chi Minh City National University while referring to the successful introduction of a similar system in Europe .

ACTS is aimed to strengthen cooperation at higher-education level, helping build an ASEAN community by 2015.

The conference will conclude on January 20./.
