Competent forces in the northern mountainous province of Dien Bien on June 17 released four Asiatic brush-tailed porcupines, also known as Don, into the Muong Nhe Nature Reserve.

Dien Bien (VNA) – Competent forces in thenorthern mountainous province of Dien Bien on June 17 released four Asiaticbrush-tailed porcupines, also known as Don, into the Muong Nhe Nature Reserve.

Director of the reserve management board Diep VanChinh said the porcupines were detected and seized during a raid on May 16.

The Asiatic brush-tailed porcupine (Atherurusmacrourus) is a species of rodent in the family Hystricidae. It is found inChina, Bhutan, India, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam.

Covering more than 46,700 hectares in the five bordercommunes of Sin Thau, Leng Su Sin, Chung Chai, Muong Nhe and Nam Ke, thereserve is home to 450 species of fauna, of which nearly 100 are listed in theRed Book./.

Storm brings heavy rains to northern Vietnam
