The 70th anniversary of Vietnam’s August Revolution and National Day (September 2) was marked in Singapore, Russia and Mongolia with ceremonies held by the Vietnamese Embassies in the countries.

The function in Singapore on September 1 was attended by 500 delegates including Singapore’s Transport Minister Lui Tuck Yew.

Addressing the event, Vietnam’s Ambassador to Singapore Nguyen Tien Minh reviewed Vietnam’s stages of struggling for independence, reconstruction and reform in the past 70 years.

The Ambassador said Vietnam is entering a new stage of economic reforms, focusing on restructuring the economy and growth models.

The ambassador affirmed the Vietnam-Singapore strategic partnership has deepened with strong commitments from leaders, promoting their bilateral relationship and supporting each other in multilateral cooperation.

Minister Lui Tuck Yew said the Singaporean government would continue assisting Vietnam in its development process by sharing experience through cooperation programmes.

The Minister said the two countries share common interests and look toward the formation of a ASEAN community at the end of this year and together building a more connected ASEAN.

On the occasion, Vietnam’s Embassy in Singapore introduced artwork and cuisine unique to Vietnam and its people to international friends.

At a similar event hosted by the Vietnamese Embassy in Russia, Vietnam’s Ambassador to Russia Nguyen Thanh Son thanked the former Soviet people and Russian people for their support and assistance to Vietnamese people over the past 70 years.

Son expressed his hope that the Free Trade Agreement between Vietnam and the Eurasian Economic Union signed in May would further cement the political-economic relationship between Vietnam and Russia.

Addressing the event, Russian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Igor Morgulov said Vietnam has made many economic achievements and gradually strengthened the country’s position in the world.

The Vietnam-Russia relationship was solid in the past and is now thriving in all fields from politics and economics to humanitarian efforts.

On the same day, a photo exhibition and film week ‘Vietnam: the 2015 World Rendezvous’ opened in Russia.
