Australian Ambassador to Vietnam Allaster Cox on April 11 announced the Australian Government’s financial support for 13 direct aid projects (DAPs) for northern and central provinces of Vietnam in the 2011-2012 fiscal year.
According to the Australian Embassy’s press release, DAP funding is in addition to Australia ’s significant bilateral aid program for Vietnam . The Australian Embassy’s DAP funding reached 2.75 billion VND this year, increasing by 9 percent compared to the 2010-2011 fiscal year.
The projects will be carried out in nine cities and provinces of Ha Giang, Bac Kan , Hai Duong, Ha Noi, Ha Nam , Nam Dinh, Thai Binh, Thanh Hoa, and Ha Tinh.
They focus on promoting the generation of additional income sources for low-income communities and the provision of vocational training and health care facilities for disadvantaged people, including women and children with HIV/AIDS and people under post drug addiction treatment.
Managed through the Australian Embassy in Hanoi and the Australian Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City , the Direct Aid Program (DAP) provides grants for small-scale development projects aimed at alleviating humanitarian hardship and advancing developmental outcomes in disadvantaged communities of Vietnam .
DAP funding is available for individuals and organisations engaged in development activities in Vietnam on a non-profitable basis. A grant of up to 210 million VND is often given to a small scale project and a grant of up to 350 million VND is available for a more complex project.-VNA
