Favourites Vietnam and Australia will go head-to-head today to secure a place in the final match of the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) Under-19 Championship, while Thailand and Malaysia slug it out for another shot.

Vietnam , a favourite at the championships, entered the semi-finals as the leader of group B with full nine points after three convincing wins over Malaysia (2-0), Myanmar (3-1) and Timor Leste (3-1).

One of the pre-tournament favourites, Australia, have not done very well, as the team head only placed second in group A with five points after two draws against Thailand and Singapore, before beating Cambodia 3-0 in the final match.

Aug. 10’s match is expected to be a close one, as host Vietnam is in top form with a large crowd of spectators behind them to give rousing cheers, while taller and stronger Australian players are beginning to show what they are made of after a bit of a slow start, which could still prove fatal in the extreme heat and humidity of Vietnam.

In the remaining semi-final match, Thailand , as the undefeated leader of the group A, will take on elated Malaysia , who got just what they wanted.

After losing the opener to Vietnam , refreshed Malaysian players trounced Timor Leste 7-1 before overcoming Myanmar in the group B’s final match to earn a berth in the semis as the second best team in group B. They are now in high spirits to face formidable Thailand./.
