Australian minister promotes trade in Indonesia

Australian Trade and Investment Minister Andrew Robb began a visit to Indonesia on September 22 with the aim of enhancing Australian trade and investment relationship with Indonesia.

The visit also aims to promote Indonesia Australia Business Week on 17-20 November 2015 with a delegation of more than 200 business people from Australia.

Robb is scheduled to meet Indonesia ’s Trade Minister Thomas Lembong , Minister of Industry Saleh Husin, along with prominent members of the Indonesian business community, including CEOs from leading banks.

The Australian minister said Indonesia is among the most important cooperative partners of Australia, and the two countries will continue working to define key economic areas for their cooperation as well as seek new opportunities for trade and investment.

According to Robb, Australia can provide quality services in banking-finance, information technology and communication and mining to Indonesia. There are also opportunities in areas such as tourism and hospitality, education and healthcare, he added.

Indonesia is a major export market for Australian agricultural products, including beef and live cattle, wheat and sugar.

It is Australia's 12th largest trading partner, with two-way trade valued at 15.7 billion USD in 2014.

The two-way investment relationship was valued at 9.6 billion USD in 2014. There are more than 200 Australian businesses operating in Indonesia.-VNA
