Australian opinions praise Constitution amendments in Vietnam

The collection of public opinion on the draft amendments to the 1992 Constitution proved that Vietnamese people’s rights are respected and Vietnam is a democratic nation, Chairman of the Vietnamese Business Association in Australia (VBAA) has said.
The collection of public opinion on the draft amendments to the 1992 Constitution proved that Vietnamese people’s rights are respected and Vietnam is a democratic nation, Chairman of the Vietnamese Business Association in Australia (VBAA) has said.

VBAA Chairman Tran Ba Phuc told a Vietnam News Agency correspondent in Australia in a recent interview that through contributing opinions to the draft, oversea Vietnamese, particularly those living in Australia, will feel more responsible and have a strong attachment to their home country.

Discussing on several contents in the draft, Phuc stressed the affirmation of the leadership role of the Communist Party of Vietnam in the national Constitution. He also proposed his opinions to the draft, especially issues relating to overseas Vietnamese.

According to Professor Carlyle A. Thayer, a well-know researcher from Australian Defence Force Academy , Vietnam ’s collection of public opinion on the draft is a positive step. He expressed his belief that the draft amendments to the 1992 Constitution will soon achieve national consensus.-VNA
