Australia’s Victoria welcomes Vietnamese localities, businesses: leaders

Sydney (VNA) – Vietnamese Ambassador to Australia Nguyen Tat Thanhpaid an official visit to Victoria from February 28 to March 2, with a hope tostrengthen ties between Vietnamese localities and the Australian state.

During this visit, Thanh paid a courtesy call to GovernorLinda Dessau, held talks with Premier Daniel Andrews, met Minister for Trade MartinPakula, chaired a roundtable with Victoria’s ministries and sectors on trade andinvestment, and visited Monash and RMIT Universities.

Victoria’s leaders acknowledged achievements in cooperation betweenthe state and Vietnamese localities, reflected through a year-on-year rise of24 percent in two-way trade in 2021 to 2.75 billion AUD (approximately 2billion USD).

Governor Linda Dessau expressed her backing for the twocountries’ upgrade of their strategic partnership on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic relations in 2023.

Victoria is willing to open its doors to Vietnameselocalities and businesses to promote comprehensive and mutually beneficialcooperation, she affirmed.

Premier Daniel Andrews welcomed Vietnam's early reopening of internationaltourism, saying he believes this will facilitate trade, investment and tourismactivities.

He also showed his willingness to ink cooperation agreementswith Vietnamese localities, particularly Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi and Da Nangcity.

The Ambassador emphasised that the first official visits toVietnam by the Governor in September 2019 and the Premier in October the same yearpaved the way for cooperation between Vietnamese localities and Victoria inmany fields, especially trade, investment, tourism, education and aviation.Therefore, the state has become a model pioneering in the implementation of comprehensivecooperation with Vietnam.

Working with Minister Martin Pakula and other officials, theVietnamese diplomat said he hopes Victoria will soon carry out specificcooperation projects with Vietnam following the state’s Southeast Asia Tradeand Investment Strategy as well as the two countries’ cooperation frameworks./.
