The department is working withvarious agencies to carry out in-depth discussions, documentaryscreenings and leaflet and flier distribution to help families avoidcommon causes of premature childhood mortality, such as trafficaccidents or drowning.
The province also allocated funds to districts to open swimming classes.
The ‘safe house’ model, which reviews and minimises possible sourcesof danger to children at home such as electricity network, cookers andchemicals, continues to be implemented to raise awareness among thecommunity.
According to the department, therewere 391 accidents with children involved in 2014 in the province, ofwhich 153 cases happened at the children’s own homes. Twenty childrendied from accidents, most by drowning.-VNA
