Bac Giang boosts agricultural development programme

The northern province of Bac Giang has set forth numerous measures to accelerate its agricultural development programme in line with building new-style rural areas in the 2015-2016 period.

According to Director of the provincial Department of Agriculture andRural Development Nguyen Van Khai, the locality will focus onrestructuring agriculture via effective and sustainable goods productionmodels, while developing hi-tech agriculture and trade villages.

Apart from creating large-scale concentrated production areas meetingVietnam Good Agricultural Practice (VietGAP) and Global GoodAgricultural Practice (GlobalGAP) standards, the province will boost theapplication of new science and technology to increase productivity,encourage businesses to buy farm produce, and develop cooperatives.

Local authorities asked livestock farmers to ensure food safety, veterinary hygiene, and keep diseases under control.

The forestry sector is also paid due attention to environmental protection and biodiversity conservation.

The province plans to expand the areas for aquatic breeding, promotetrade names for farm produce, and improve the efficiency of publicinvestment management and disbursement, along with attracting investmentin agriculture, especially in rural areas, and reforming administrativeprocedures.

The programme has helped Bac Giangprovince build trade names for its farm produce such as “Ga doi Yen The”(Yen The chicken), Luc Ngan litchis, and Hiep Hoa grapefruits.

Yen The chicken, in particular, was named as one of the ASEAN’s bestfoods last year. In 2012, it was honoured as a “trusted product” in asurvey by the National Office of Intellectual Property and IntellectualMagazine, and recognised as a “Capital’s Trusted Trademark” by the HanoiAssociation for Science and Technology and the Vietnam Association forCustomer Protection.-VNA

Two wanted for abusing religious cover to undermine national unity policy

The fugitives are Di (also known as Siu Di), born in 1941, and Dinh Yum (also known as Dinh Jum or Ba Koih), born in 1963, from Ba Na ethnic minority group in Gia Lai province, and hold Vietnamese nationality. They have been charged under Clause 1, Article 116 of the Penal Code for undermining the national unity policy.

Support delivered to Khmer households for traditional New Year

The province's delegation of National Assembly deputies, in coordination with relevant agencies, presented 600 gifts across 11 communes, including 100 in Tap Son commune and 50 in each of the others. The programme, worth 300 million VND (11,300 USD), was funded by Agribank’s Vinh Long branch.
