A project to bring electricity to 143 remote hamlets and villages in the northern mountainous province of Bac Kan was kicked off in Khang Ninh commune, Ba Be district on August 28.

It has a total investment of 308 billion VND (14.6 million USD), with 85 percent coming from the central budget and the remaining from the Electricity of Vietnam.

Under the project, the province will construct a 240-km 35kV overhead power line and 96 three-phase power stations with a total capacity of 3,395kVA. More than 280 km of 0.4 kV power line will be built.

Once completed in 2016, the project will provide electricity for nearly 6,000 local households.

The project reflects the attention of the Party, State and Government to the lives of people in Bac Kan mountainous areas, said Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Nong Van Chi.

He also called on all parties involved to cooperate effectively to accomplish the project on schedule. As a poor province, Bac Kan is facing numerous challenges in socio-economic development, he said, adding that the project will contribute to the province’s industrialisation and modernisation of agriculture and rural areas as well as improving locals’ living standards.-VNA
