Bac Lieu to increase patrols over IUU fishing

The Mekong Delta province of Bac Lieu has recorded no violations related to illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing since 2021.

Bac Lieu (VNA) – The Mekong Delta province of Bac Lieu hasrecorded no violations related to illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU)fishing since 2021.

Deputy Director of the provincial Department of Agricultureand Rural Development Pham Van Muoi attributed the result to the province’sefforts to mobilise the whole political system to get engaged in the fight against IUU.

Attention has been also paid to stepping up the dissemination of laws toimprove the awareness of ship owners, captains and fishermen about IUU fishingprevention and control.

As a result, 100% of ship owners and captains have signed acommitment not to conduct IUU fishing.

Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Le TanCan said that to continue the effective implementation of the EuropeanCommission’s recommendations on this issue, the provincial steering committeefor IUU prevention and control will diversify forms of dissemination to popularisethe Fisheries Law to fishermen, and support owners in installing the vessel monitoringsystem.

The province will also increase patrols and inspections topromptly detect and strictly punish IUU fishing violations in accordance withregulations, added Can./.

Ho Chi Minh City steps up law enforcement on fishing vessel monitoring system

Ho Chi Minh City has 4,449 fishing vessels, of them 4,301 equipped with VMS devices, making up 96.67%. Between January 1, 2024, and December 31, 2025, authorities found 1,729 cases of vessels losing VMS connection for six hours or more, issuing fines in 196 cases totalling nearly 6.6 billion VND (about 252,000 USD)

Japan Coast Guard patrol vessel pays courtesy visit to Da Nang
