Two consecutive bombings in Thailand’s capital city of Bangkok on August 17-18 have worried Vietnamese tourists, especially those already booked tours to the country.

Travel firms in Ho Chi Minh City have informed their clients of security situation in Thailand, rescheduled or cancelled some tours to the kingdom.

Tu Quy Thanh, Director of the Lien Bang Travel Company, said that by August 19, the situation in Thailand had been under control, so the company would continue to guide tourists to the country as scheduled.

A large number of tourists, however, cancelled or re-booked their tours to other destinations such as Malaysia and Singapore.

Nguyen Thi Tuyet Mai, Marketing and Media Director of the Ben Thanh Tourist Travel Company, said the company would bring six groups with around 200 tourists to Thailand in the next three days.

She added that more than 750 tourists are on the way home from Thailand and all are safe.

Tran Thi Viet Huong, Interim Marketing Director of the Vietravel Travel Company, said the company and its partners in Thailand and tour guides are continuously updating information to take measures ensuring the safety of tourists. Those in Bangkok are advised to stay at hotels in the evening and avoid crowded areas.

On the day, the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism asked travel firms to actively and closely coordinate with partners, Vietnam’s diplomatic representative agencies in Thailand to get updated information and apply measures to ensure the safety of Vietnamese tourists and their belongings.-VNA
