The workshop on August 18 discussed best practices sharing of standards and conformity assessment implementation on smart cities in the APEC region (Photo: VNA) HCM City (VNA) – Nearly 100 delegates from 21 member economies ofthe Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) discussed best practices sharingof standards and conformity assessment implementation on smart cities in the APECregion at a workshop in Ho Chi Minh City on August 18.
The workshop is an activity of the APEC Sub-Committee on Standards andConformance (SCSC) within the framework of the APEC 2017 third Senior OfficialsMeeting (SOM3) and related meetings.
In his opening remarks, Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Science and TechnologyTran Van Tung said the promotion of digital economy has been considered animportant issue of the APEC 2017.
One of SCSC 2017 priorities of this year is “Development and promotion ofstandards and conformance to support the digital economy” that the APEC regionneeds to work together to share best practices, identify opportunities andchallenges, and boost cooperation, harmonisation of standards and conformityassessment that directly contribute to the achievement of the Bogor Goals, hesaid.
The workshop focused on development orientations for international standards(ISO, IEC) in smart cities.
The participating developing economies shared experience in making policies on developingsmart cities as well as development orientations suitable with standards set bythe UN.
The delegates also talked about the standardisation on the basis of scientificand technological advances in smart transport and buildings, water resourcesmanagement, energy-efficient new-generation means of transport,information-technology infrastructure and smart applications in daily life.
The workshop offers a good opportunity for APEC member economies and relevantinternational organisations to seek ways to reform and promote the building andapplication of scientific and technological advances in standard andrecognition activities, gearing towards sustainable development of smart citiesin the APEC region. -VNA
