Sydney (VNA) - A conference on foreign investment attraction to the southernprovince of Binh Duong was organised in Sydney on July 10, attracting crowds ofrepresentatives from the two countries’ business communities.

The event was part of the activities of the field trip to Australia by officialsfrom Binh Duong province and representatives from Becamex IDC Corp.

The event heard that Binh Duong province has issued many important policies toattract foreign direct investment (FDI) and promote economic development, focusingon developing industrial clusters and zones, in order to meet the business andproduction demand of domestic and foreign enterprises.

By the end of 2018, as much as 2.1 billion USD in FDI was poured into BinhDuong, 50.2 percent higher than the set target. The province was home to 3,509foreign-invested projects with total registered capital of 32.2 billion USD,ranking third nationwide after Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi.

Speaking at the event, General Director of DETMOLD Group of Australia, whichspecialises in providing food containers, said 98 percent of products of the firmwere produced in Binh Duong, adding that the company will continue to expandits long-term production in the locality.

Nguyen Phu Hoa, Chief Representative of Vietnam Commercial Affairs in Australia,said the conference demonstrates initiative and efforts by the Binh Duongauthorities to lure more foreign investment to the locality.

Vietnam, Thailand strengthen investment ties, smart city cooperation

Thailand is currently Vietnam's largest trading partner within ASEAN, while Vietnam ranks as Thailand's sixth-largest trading partner globally. Bilateral trade reached 22.07 billion USD in 2025, with both sides aiming to increase the figure to 25 billion USD in the coming years. Thailand also has 805 valid investment projects in Vietnam with a combined registered capital of 15.4 billion USD.

Deputy PM requests faster disbursement of ODA-funded projects

As of June 15, the disbursement rate for public investment funded by external sources had reached only 9.99% of the assigned plan. Although the figure was higher than in the same period last year, it remained well below the national average. Notably, one out of eight ministries and central agencies and 13 localities had yet to disburse any allocated capital.
