Binh Phuoc handles post-war bomb, ordnance leftovers

The Military High Command of the southern province of Binh Phuoc on May 22 worked with National Shooting Range Region 3 to dismantle various bombs, mines and artillery left over from wars in Loc Ninh and Bu Dang districts.

Binh Phuoc (VNA) - The Military High Command of the southern provinceof Binh Phuoc on May 22 worked with National Shooting Range Region 3 to dismantlevarious bombs, mines and artillery left over from wars in Loc Ninh and Bu Dangdistricts.

They included four bombs, six artillery cannons, 46 sub-munitions and fourgrenades.
                                                 
Major Vo Trung Son, head of the Engineer Corp department under the provincialMilitary High Command, warned that as bombs can explode any time, locals must notcut unexploded landmines for scrap metal.

Thousands of bombs, landmines and explosives were dropped in the provinceduring wars. Many are still buried in the locality.

In previous years, the province has made concerted efforts to defuse bombs andmines.

An estimated 800,000 tonnes of unexploded bombs and mines left over from wars arein more than 20 percent of Vietnam’s territory. The US army used more than 15million tonnes of bombs and mines in Vietnam during 1945-1975, four times theamount used in World War II.

Leftover bombs and mines have killed about 42,130 people and injured 62,160others in the country. The bombs and mines have affected socio-economicdevelopment and had severe consequences on people’s lives. -VNA

Emission standards for motorcycles to be issued in July

Under the draft, motorcycles produced before 2008 will be subject to the lowest level of inspection standards, level 1, while those manufactured from 2008 onwards will be assessed to a higher standard. Similar rules will also apply to motorised vehicles, with level 1 for those manufactured before 2016.

Vietnam consults stakeholders on climate change scenarios

Lang Son becomes Vietnam’s 4th global geopark

Lang Son Global Geopark spans over 4,842 square kilometres, roughly 58% of the province, and is home to around 627,500 people. It features a rich blend of geological wonders and cultural heritage, including stunning caves and sinkholes such as Nguom Mooc Cave, Tham Lum and Ung Roac. Its biodiversity is also protected within the Huu Lien Nature Reserve.
