Books on Vietnam handed over to Netherlands’ Leiden University

The Vietnam Embassy in the Netherlands has presented 41 titles of books and five DVDs on Vietnam to the Leiden University Library.

Hanoi (VNA) – The Vietnam Embassy in the Netherlandshas presented 41 titles of books and five DVDs on Vietnam to the LeidenUniversity Library.

At a ceremony marking the event, Vietnamese Ambassador tothe Netherlands Ngo Thi Hoa said the books in English will diversify thelibrary’s documents on Vietnam, helping international students and scholarsunderstand more about the country’s culture and people.

She highlighted the handover of the books as a practicalactivity in celebration of 45 years of diplomatic relations between Vietnam andthe Netherlands in 2018.

Marco de Niet, deputy director of the library, said thebooks came not long after the Asian Library of Leiden University wasestablished, and it needs documents for its Vietnamese space.

He said the library is keeping one of the biggestcollections on Southeast Asia in the world, adding that its Vietnamesecollection now consists of three million objects.

The new books will be a good source of reference for readersto learn about Vietnam and its relations with the world, he noted.

After the ceremony, a meeting took place betweenrepresentatives of the university and the embassy and a visiting delegation ofthe Vietnam Film Institute. Leiden University said it plans to work with theembassy in organising activities of Vietnam Year 2019 at its Leiden Asia Centrenext year.-VNA

Quang Ngai to remove hundreds of unregistered fishing vessels

To date, Quang Ngai has 5,194 registered fishing vessels, with data regularly updated in the National Fisheries Database (VNFishbase). The provincial licensing rate for fishing activities has reached 81.94%, while 99% of local vessels required to install vessel monitoring systems (VMS) have complied.

A total of 351 communes free of temporary, dilapidated houses

From February 21-28, 7,540 temporary and dilapidated houses were renovated or replaced nationwide, bringing the total number of facilities improved under humanitarian policy to 115,481. Of these, 62,737 houses were inaugurated, while construction began on another 52,744.

Vietnam set to host Vesak 2025 with thorough preparations
