Narcotics squads along the Vietnam-Laos borderline released a long list of illicit drugs and weapons captured in 2010 at a joint meeting on cross-border drug control in Dien Bien province on Dec. 17.

They reported the arrest of 3,700 drug trafficking suspects and seizure of over 99 kg of heroin, 76 kg of opium, almost 141,350 capsules of methamphetamine, 10 kg of morphine, 53 guns, 68 bullets, two grenades and many other weapons as well as valuable assets in drug cases.

The six border provinces with four of Vietnam and two of Laos made commitments to tighten joint patrols along the borderline and the neighbourhood to curb cross-border drug trafficking and keep the crime at bay.

They also reached a consensus on increasing the exchange of information and experiences in drug inspection as well as tightening coordination of action, holding regular meetings and speeding up personnel training.

The joint taskforce in drug control is the umbrella group of police, border guards and customs officers from the two countries./.
