Party leaders attending a two-day national meeting on reviewing the inspection and supervision tasks of Party members and organisations called for strict punishments to be meted out against those indulging in corrupt and wasteful acts.
At the conference that wrapped up on Dec. 17, Le Hong Anh, Politburo member and permanent member of the Party Secretariat, said proper Party inspections would help detect violations and other negative actions of Party members.
Anh said that the Party Inspection Commission at the central as well as lower levels had played an active role in fighting corruption, waste and red tape.
He urged the commissions to continue improving the capacity of officials and to be fair in discharging their supervisory roles, especially in preventing corruption and natural resources management.
The Party Inspection Commission reported that the number of Party members and groups that had violated laws or codes of conduct this year increased by 15 percent and 14 percent, respectively, compared with 2010.
The number of violations had also increased with smuggling and tax evasion among the new offences, the commission said.
It is important, therefore, that Party Committees at central and grassroots levels enhance the task of educating Party members.
During the conference, the delegates discussed and recognised the positive and negative aspects of inspection tasks carried out this year. They also discussed ways to make the inspection process more effective in 2012 and the following years. /.
