Phnom Penh (VNA) – The Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) and the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces held the second joint drill dubbed “Golden Dragon 2018” in the Cambodian province of Kampong Speu on March 17.
Speaking at the event, both sides said the drill is part of celebrations for the 60th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties with a view to sharing experience in counter-terrorism and humanitarian cause between the two armies.
As many as 280 Cambodian and 190 Chinese soldiers joined the drill which will last till March 31, one week longer than the first drill held in late 2016.
The PLA deployed 3 helicopters, 8 tanks, many other weapons and vehicles to the training.
Participating troops will repair roads, defuse bombs, mines and explosives, build bridges, dislocate victims of natural disasters, shoot from helicopters and fire missiles into simulated targets.
In 2017, Cambodia suspended annual military exercises with the US and Australia, saying that they were too busy preparing for local elections.
