Phnom Penh (VNA) – Fifty-five members of the opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) were removed from their posts in the National Assembly of Cambodia.

Chairman of Cambodian National Assembly Leng Peng Long on November 21 said that all drivers, assistants and private secretaries of those CNRP members were also removed. Public assets including cars, computers and devices assigned for them will be revoked.

The National Election Committee of Cambodia is set to distribute the seats held by the CNRP in the National Assembly and commune councillor positions to other political parties that also joined in the election.

Cambodia’s Supreme Court on November 16 ordered the dissolution of the CNRP in response to the Interior Ministry's lawsuit.

The court ruling also banned 118 senior officials of the party from politics for five years from the date of this verdict issuance.

The Interior Ministry accused the CNRP of seriously violating the amended Law on Political Parties, saying the party had conspired with foreigners to topple the Government.-VNA
