Two more human cases of avian influenza H5N1 have been confirmed in Cambodia , and one of them, an 11-year-old boy, died on March 7.
Deputy Director of Kantha Bopha children hospital Denis Laurent said the boy was in a critical condition when he arrived at the hospital.
Another boy, eight years old, from Kandal province also suffered from the virus last week, but his condition is stable and he is recovering, the director said.
Cambodia has so far this year recorded eight cases of avian influenza H5N1, and three of them have died, all are children.
According to the World Health Organisation, H5N1 virus normally spreads among the sick fowls, but it can spread from poultry to humans.
The virus was first detected in Cambodia 10 years ago. To date, the country has reported 55 human cases of infection, including 36 deaths.-VNA
