Cambodia to have first wind farm

Cambodia’s Khmer Times and Phnom Penh Post have carried stories about the Blue Circle’s project to build a wind farm in Kampot province – the first of its kind in the country.

Phnom Penh (VNA) – Cambodia’s KhmerTimes and Phnom Penh Post have carried stories about the Blue Circle’s projectto build a wind farm in Kampot province – the first of its kind in the country.

Victor Jona, director-general of the Ministry ofMines and Energy’s General Department of Energy, said this month, theSingapore-based company will discuss with the Cambodian government about a planto build the wind farm in the southern province.

The Blue Circle recently completed a feasibilityassessment on projects in Cambodia’s Kampot and Mondulkiri provinces and it isscheduled to meet with representatives from the Cambodian government onNovember 19 to discuss the tariff at which it will supply power to the nationalgrid.

It plans to install at least 10 turbines onMount Bokor in Kampot with a total capacity of 80MW.

Thailand tightens inspections to curb illegal migrant labour

Thailand’s Deputy Government Spokesperson Aiyarin Phanrit said relevant authorities have also been instructed to conduct strict on-site inspections of migrant workers and their workplaces in order to prevent the use of illegal labour. She added that if illegal work is found, legal action will be taken decisively.
