Cambodian PM upholds multilateral trading system at ASEAN summits

Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet highly valued the role of the private sector and urged ASEAN to maintain its commitment to a free, open, inclusive, fair, and transparent multilateral trading system, while attending the 44th and 45th ASEAN Summits and related summits held in Vientiane.

Phnom Penh (VNA) - Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet highly valued the role of the private sector and urged ASEAN to maintain its commitment to a free, open, inclusive, fair, and transparent multilateral trading system, while attending the 44th and 45th ASEAN Summits and related summits held in Vientiane.

According to the Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation’s October 10 press release, Hun Manet emphasised that to maintain its position as a driving force for global prosperity, ASEAN needs to leverage on the huge potential of new sectors such as digital economy, green transition, blue economy, and resilient supply chains to enjoy robust and durable growth.

At the ASEAN Leaders’ Interface with representatives of the ASEAN Business Advisory Council (ASEAN-BAC), the PM emphasised the importance of maintaining cooperative activities in the form of public-private partnerships within ASEAN to support infrastructure projects amidst limited financial resources, while encouraging enhanced cooperation in regional connectivity, digital transformation, and green transition.

He also underscored the role of the private sector in contributing to rapid economic development, and the improvement of the well-being of people in the region.

At the ASEAN Leaders’ Interface with the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA), the Cambodian leader emphasised that governments and parliaments need to enhance cooperation to promote the development of emerging industries such as digital economy and green transition, and put in place effective legal frameworks to help ASEAN tap into the potential that these sectors bring about./.
