Phnom Penh (VNA) – Cambodia’s opposition leader of the Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP), Sam Rainsy, has been summoned as a suspect by the country’s prosecution for questioning in connection with security disturbances on September 11. 

The summon, issued by Deputy Prosecutor Seang Sok on October 6, order Sam Rainsy to be present at the Prosecution at the Phnom Penh Court of First Instance at 9a.m. on October 21.

The order was sent to the CNRP’s head office, which is also Sam Rainsy’s residence, by the judicial police on October 11. It was received by CNRP’s administrative officer.

Ram Rainsy has been living exile since November 2015 to avoid a two-year sentence in jail for defamation of Deputy PM Hor Namhong in 2008. He was also fined 2,500 USD by the Phnom Penh Court for defaming National Assembly President Samdech Heng Samrin.-VNA
