Vice Chairman of the municipal People’sCommittee Truong Quang Hoai Nam said the Mekong Delta city is very interestedin the environmental issue, especially waste and industrial wastewater. It alsoexpects more ODA funding from Japan for building more wastewater treatmentfactories.
He added he hopes Can Tho and Nagasakiprefecture will enhance cooperation in a more comprehensive manner in thefuture.
Tsutomu Tomioka, Chairman of the friendshipassociation and also a Japanese parliamentarian, suggested Can Tho use theJapanese Government’s ODA loans to provide a training programme forenvironmental management officials and build waste-to-energy plants to treatwaste and improve local residents’ life.

Tomioka, who is also former Deputy Minister ofEducation, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, said to ensure goodenvironmental management, it is necessary to educate students aboutenvironmental protection.
If Can Tho wants, the Nagasaki-Vietnam FriendshipAssociation will invite the Japanese ministry to support the city, he added.
Due to climate change impacts, more and morepeople from other areas in the Mekong Delta are forecast to flock to Can Tho,which in turn will raise local demand for waste and wastewater treatment andenvironmental protection.-VNA
