Canada ’s International Development Research Centre (IDRC) will continue helping Vietnamese researchers improve their capacity of addressing new challenges during the development process as well as boost science, technology and innovation.
Dr. Rohinton Medhora, who is in charge of IDRC programmes, confirmed the continued assistance at a conference marking 20 years of the centre’s cooperation with the Vietnamese Government and partners in Hanoi on February 25.
At the conference, which also celebrated the 40th anniversary of IDRC, Canadian and Vietnamese researchers presented the results of several IDRC-funded projects in fields such as economic policy, information technology and communication, environmental sustainability, climate change and infectious diseases.
Since it started cooperation with Vietnam in 1990, the IDRC supported about 100 projects in Vietnam with over 24 million CAD in aid, focusing on poverty reduction and sustainable development.
The centre has also cooperated with many Vietnamese research institutes, including the Institute of Social Sciences and Humanities, the Centre of Socio-economic Development and the Veterinary Institute./.
