Committee chairman Tran Van Minh said this was to stop the spreading ofdust, dirt and rubble until the end of Tet on February 21.
The committee has also asked authorities to tell people to keep residential areas clean and avoid littering.
And it has spoken out against the old custom of ripping branches offany trees carrying buds on the first day of the new year and carryingthem home to bring good luck.
The city’s Environment and Urban Company will not collect rubbish forthe first three days of the lunar year, so all markets have been toldto close before 8pm on Feb. 13, the final day of the year.
Pham Manh Thang, director of the company, said 1,150 dustmen and 66cleaning trucks were ready to keep the streets clean and protect theenvironment during Tet.
“The company will launch three campaigns to sweep the streets andmarkets from7pm to 10pm on New Year’s eve and flower markets from 10 pmto 1am on Feb. 13,” Thang said.
Thang said the company would focus its cleaning on two areas wherefireworks would be displayed to make sure the streets were keptspotless./.
