The central province of Nghe An held a memorial service on May 12 to receive and re-bury 74 sets of remains of unidentified Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and specialists who laid down their lives in Laos during the war against French and US aggressors.

Attending the event were representatives from Laos ’ Vientiane city, and Xieng Khuoang province, the Military Command 4 of Vietnam and the Vietnamese and Lao government special working committees.

This is the second repatriation of remains in Laos during the dry season of 2009-2010.

Over the past 25 years, the two committees, the Ministry of Defence, the Military Command 4 and Nghe An province in collaboration with Vientiane and Xieng Khuoang province have gathered nearly 12,000 sets of remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and specialists in Vientiane and Xieng Khuoang province to rebury in Vietnam-Laos martyrs cemeteries in Anh Son and Do Luong districts of Nghe An province.

Also on May 12, a sombre funeral service for 37 sets of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts who laid down their lives in Laos during the wartime was held in Nam cemetery in the central province of Ha Tinh .

The remains were found by the provincial Military Command in Vientiane and Bolikhamsay province. Out of the 31 sets of remains, only five were identified.

The provincial Military Command has gathered and buried the remains of 560 Vietnamese soldiers and experts who were killed on the battlefield./.
