Prague (VNA) – The Vietnamese embassy in the Czech Republic hosted a ceremony on January 18 celebrating the 67th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties and saluting the upcoming Lunar New Year (Tet) festival.
Addressing 300 Czech guests and Vietnamese nationals, Vietnamese Ambassador Truong Manh Son said since February 2, 1950, ties between Vietnam and the Czech Republic have been growing into traditional friendship and comprehensive cooperation. Two-way trade last year hit 1 billion USD.
Vice President of the Senate Jaroslav Kubera lauded bilateral traditional ties over the past years and the Vietnamese nationals’ integration in the host country as a successful model of a foreign community in a multi-ethnic, multi-cultural and multi-religious nation.
According to him, the Czech Republic and Vietnam hold great potential of tourism exchange.
At the event, Ambassador Son and Czech Deputy Foreign Minister Lukas Kaucky presented the insignia “For Peace and Friendship among Nations” of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations (VUFO) to political, social and cultural activists and several Czech businesspeople for contributions to the comprehensive partnership between the two countries.
In his speech, Kaucky pledged to do his best to facilitate visa issuance to Vietnamese citizens in order to boost economic and tourism links, with the opening of a Consulate in Ho Chi Minh City as the first task.-VNA
