The “Run for Children 2009” will start on November 22 in Hanoi to solicit international and domestic donations for Vietnamese children who are living in poverty or facing cancer and heart disease.

The event will be jointly organised by Hanoi ’s Union of Friendship Organisations, the Vietnam-Canada Friendship Association, the Canadian Embassy, and the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam .

Speaking at a press conference on Nov. 17, Canadian Ambassador to Vietnam Deanna Horton said that “Run for Children 2009” is the new name of the “Terry Fox” race, which has been held successfully in Vietnam since 2000. This year’s race will continue to be a chance for Canadian and international donors to help poor and ailing Vietnamese children.

All donations will be pumped to Hanoi Heart Hospital , the National Hospital of Paediatrics and Heart Beat Vietnam fund, said Horton.

Around 37,000 people have joined the Terry Fox run in Hanoi since 2000, raising a total of 2.2 billion VND for cancer research in Vietnam . Last year alone, 7,000 participants helped generate more than 500 million VND for domestic charities./.
