Binh Dinh (VNA) – A campaign was launched in the central province of Binh Dinh on May 19 to call on young doctors to follow President Ho Chi Minh’s examples.

Co-hosted by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Youth Union (VYU) and the Vietnam Young Physicians’ Association (VYPA), the event was meant to celebrate the 128th birth anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh (May 19).

Speaking at the event, Vice Chairman of the VYU Central Committee and VYPA Chairman Tran Van Thuan said over 6,000 young physicians are ready to go anywhere to contribute knowledge and efforts to the society.

It is the ninth year the event has been held, he said, adding that it has been welcomed by residents living in remote and island areas.

During the event, participants will offer free medicines to more than 10,000 people, free eye surgery to 500 old people, offer training on basic first aid to 5,000 teachers in 700 kindergartens and elementary schools nationwide. Over 50,000 children will join the festival of hand-washing with soap.

Up to 13,000 units of blood are expected to be received while water purification bottles will be granted to more than 50 kindergartens and elementary schools.

The organising board presented gifts to 20 poor families, offered scholarships to 20 poor students, a mobile swimming pool to the provincial chapter of the Ho  Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, and water purification machines to 18 local elementary schools.

Following the launch ceremony, the board offered free health check-ups and medicines to 400 poor old persons in Tay Son district, and training on hand-washing with soap and drowning prevention for 200 elementary pupils.-VNA
