Children with harelips and cleft palates receive free operation

 A group of doctors from the Chonbuk National University, the Republic of Korea (RoK), provided free surgery for 38 children with harelips and cleft palates in the central region from July 14-21.

Vice President of the university Prof. Shin Hyo-Keun said that during their stay, the team gave medical check-ups to 61 patients and 31 of them received free-of-charge operation at the hospital of the Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy. 

The Chonbuk National University has also cooperated with the Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy in training and offered scholarships for a number of graduates and postgraduates to study in the RoK, he added. 

This is the eighth visit to the central city of Hue by doctors from the Chonbuk National University to offer free surgery for children with facial abnormalities. 

As many as 215 children in the central region have benefited from this charitable programme so far.-VNA
