China hopes that the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) and the US will continue meetings to discuss the nuclear issue, according to the Chinese Foreign Ministry.

Hanoi (VNA) - China hopes that the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) and the US will continue meetings to discuss the nuclear issue, according to the Chinese Foreign Ministry.

Chinese State Councilor Yang Jiechi made the statement in a telephone talks with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo after the DPRK-USA Hanoi Summit Vietnam on February 27-28 failed to reach an agreement.

Meanwhile, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said on March 1 that the US is yet to inform Russia of the outcomes of the summit.

Earlier the same day, Foreign Minister of the Republic of Korea (RoK) Kang Kyung-wha and the US Secretary of State held a telephone conversation about the outcomes of the summit.

The RoK Foreign Ministry said though the US and DPRK failed to reach an agreement, Washington’s consistent efforts to maintain the dialogue with Pyongyang is significant, and added that the RoK wants to keep close contact with the US on the issue.

Pompeo, for his part, highlighted the importance of the close cooperation between the US and the RoK, affirming that the US will continue talks with the DPRK.

During the summit, DPRK leader Kim Jong-un suggested the indefinite end to nuclear tests and long-range missiles while US President Donald Trump vowed to not increase sanctions against the Asian country, which is considered a positive result.-VNA
