Hanoi (VNA) - China is willing to maintain friendly policies towards Malaysia to deepen cooperation and benefit people of both countries, said Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

During a meeting with his Malaysian counterpart Saifuddin Abdullah in Kuala Lumpur on July 31, Wang affirmed that as developing countries, China and Malaysia enjoy traditional friendship and their shared interests far outweigh differences.

The China-Malaysia relationship is of "strategic significance”, he added.

According to the Chinese official, with the establishment of a new Malaysian government, the relations between the two countries now stand at a new starting point.

China is ready to increase high-level exchanges between the two governments and lay out a specific plan for the development of their future ties, Wang stressed.

For his part, Saifuddin highlighted significant developments in the traditional friendship and bilateral relations of the two countries, saying that those are delivering benefits to both sides’ people.

Malaysia sees China as a good neighbour and an important partner, he said, affirming that the new Malaysian government has attached great importance to the bilateral relations.

Regarding Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad's upcoming visit to China, Saifuddin said Malaysia will work closely with the Chinese side to make the visit successful, thus enhancing cooperation between the two countries in many fields, not only benefiting their people but also actively contributing to cooperation in the region and the world.-VNA
