Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao said on April 30 Beijing wants to boostcooperation in trade and security with the Association of SoutheastAsian Nations (ASEAN).
Wen made the statement at a meeting in Jakarta with ASEAN SecretaryGeneral Surin Pitsuwan on the last day of his three-day visit toIndonesia , which now holds the rotating chairmanship of ASEAN.
China is committed to deepening practical cooperation with ASEANand stands ready to work with ASEAN to maintain regional security andstability, Wen said.
Wen said in the next 10 years,China will speed up the construction of roads connecting China andASEAN countries, develop telecoms systems and electricity transmissionlines, and invest in infrastructure projects in the region.
China will also provide financial support in the forms of creditaid and investment to further facilitate goods trading, capital flowsand people-to-people exchanges between the two sides.
Surin said for ASEAN, China plays an important role. ASEANwelcomes China ’s efforts to step up cooperative relations with EastAsian countries, he added.
Last year, Chinabecame ASEAN's biggest trading partner. The two sides have set a targetof 500 billion USD in two-way trade by 2015.
ASEANgroups Brunei , Cambodia , Indonesia , Laos , Malaysia , Myanmar ,the Philippines , Singapore , Thailand and Vietnam. /.
