Hanoi (VNA) – Best wishes have been extended to Catholic and Protestant dignitaries and followers nationwide amid the jubilant Christmas atmosphere.
On December 24, a delegation from the Steering Committee for the Southwestern Region led by its deputy head Le Hung Dung visited religious establishments in the Mekong Delta province of Hau Giang.
Leaders of the provincial Party Committee, People’s Committee and Fatherland Front also visited Catholics and Protestants across the locality on this occasion.
Wishing them a merry Christmas, Secretary of the Hau Giang Party Committee Tran Cong Chanh hailed their contributions to the development of the province and the nation at large.
He expressed his hope that the Catholics and Protestants continue their tradition to strengthen the great national unity.
The same day, authorities of the southern central province of Binh Thuan also visited local Catholic and Protestant followers.
Vice Secretary of the local Party Committee Duong Van An said he hopes that with their role and prestige, dignitaries will organise religious activities within the legal framework, while encouraging followers to actively participate in movements which help develop the nation and the locality.
Leaders of southern Bac Lieu province and northern Phu Tho province also visited and extended greetings to local Catholics and Protestants on the occasion.
Catholicism and Protestantism are two major religions in Vietnam , with nearly 7 million and over 1 million followers, respectively.-VNA
