Christmas greetings sent to Catholics in Central Highlands

Kon Tum (VNA) – Politburo member and President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Central Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan has wished Catholics in the Diocese of Kon Tum a merry Christmas as the season is just around the corner.

Meeting with the diocese’s Bishop in Kon Tum province on December 23, Nhan said he hopes each Vietnamese Catholic will be a good and patriotic citizen who always accompany the nation during the course of development.

He also congratulated Bishop Nguyen Hung Vi on his appointment as the Bishop of the Kon Tum Diocese and voiced his belief that the newly accredited will help ensure the spiritual life of local Catholics.

For his part, Vi expressed his delight at the Party and State’s care for local parishioners.

On this occasion, the VFF President and representatives of the Steering Committee for the Central Highlands and the Kon Tum provincial authorities presented gifts to the local Miraculous Medal Church, which is taking care of 800 orphans.

They also visited the province’s social centre, where more than 150 single elderly, orphans and disabled children are living at, and children at an orphanage in Dak To Re commune of Kon Ray district.

The Diocese of Kon Tum covers the neighbouring Central Highlands provinces of Kon Tum and Gia Lai. It is home to about 300,000 Catholic followers out of the total population of over 1.77 million.-VNA
