HCM City (VNA) - The classic ballet Cinderella, choreographed by Johanne Jakhelln Constant of Norway, will return to the HCM City Opera House for two nights on April 8 and 9 with the HCM City Ballet Symphony Orchestra and Opera (HBSO).
Cinderella is about a poor girl living with her wicked stepmother and stepsisters. Ill-treated and ignored, the girl does not receive an invitation to the town’s glittering party marking the arrival of the prince.
However, her Fairy Godmother gives Cinderella until midnight the chance to transform herself and win the attention of the prince.
In her haste to depart when midnight strikes, she leaves behind one jewelled slipper.
Composed by Sergei Prokofiev between 1940 and 1944, the ballet has inspired choreographers ever since.
Cinderella has attracted audiences in HCM City since its premiere in 2013 and has since become one of the HBSO’s most awaited ballets each year.
Jakhelln Constant was the artistic director of Ballet Quad Cities (US) from 1997-2006. While with the company she choreographed more than 40 ballets, including The Nutcracker, Cinderella, Coppélia and The Sleeping Beauty.
She was given three choreography awards for her original works Chairished and Flickering Blue.-VNA
