A conference was held in Hanoi on April 16 to collect businesses’ comments on draft amendments to the Law on Customs.
The conference was jointly organised by the Ministry of Finance, the US Agency for International Development (USAID), and the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI).
Vice Finance Minister Do Hoang Anh Tuan said that the amendments to the Law on Customs look to renovate customs procedures comprehensively to meet international norms while safeguarding the country’s political security, sovereignty, and national security.
The amended law will help draw in foreign investment and improve the country’s competitiveness, Tuan said.
According to Joakim Parker, Mission Director of USAID Vietnam, the country needs to increasingly clarify and reform customs procedures in preparation for the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), which is under negotiations.-VNA
