Kon Tum (VNA) – A communications campaign for WorldMalaria Prevention Day (April 25) was launched in Ngoc Hoi district in theCentral Highlands province of Kon Tum on April 25.
Themed “End malaria for good”, the event was co-organised bythe Institute of Malariology, Parasitology and Entomology Quy Nhon (IMPE-QN),the World Health Organisation and the provincial Health Department.
IMPE-QN pointed out measures to prevent malaria, includingenhancing the quality of vector-controlling measures and treatment of malariapatients in severely-hit areas.
It also suggested strengthening the control of malariapatients through grassroots medical networks and the quality of malaria diagnosisand treatment at all levels, among others.
The launching ceremony was followed by a march along mainstreets and residential areas to raise public awareness of malaria preventionand anti-malarial drugs resistance.
With efforts of department and agencies at all level, Kon Tumprovince has seen a decrease in the number of malaria cases while there were nodeaths recorded in the locality over the past five years.
Meanwhile, the Central and Central Highlands region ingeneral recorded two deaths of malaria in 2016 and is facing high risks ofepidemic resurgence, especially in remote and border areas. - VNA
