Consular work for Vietnamese in southwestern Cambodia reaps good outcomes

Phnom Penh (VNA) – The VietnamConsulate General in Cambodia’s Preah Sihanouk province, which is in charge ofproviding consular services in six southwestern Cambodian localities, has operatedeffectively last year despite diseases and natural disasters.

At a ceremony held on January 29 to reviewthe consulate’s work toward the Vietnamese community in Preah Sihanouk, Kampot,Kep, Koh Kong, Kampong Speu và Takeo in 2020, Consul General Vu Ngoc Ly said thework to gain legal status for Cambodians of Vietnamese origin is going favourably,while cases involving their legitimate rights have been settled promptly.

In addition to Vietnamese language classes,a number of Khmer language classes have been piloted in Kampot and PreahSihanouk to help the Cambodians of Vietnamese origin integrate into the localcommunity and meet requirements to gain Cambodian citizenship, he added, hopingthe models will be replicated in the time to come.

After COVID-19 broke out in the countrylast year, the consulate visited the provinces under its charge to inform thecommunity about prevention and control measures and offer aid such as rice,face masks, and antiseptic solution.

To date, it has provided about 65,000 USDworth of aid to more than 2,000 needy Vietnamese Cambodian and 700 Cambodianhouseholds.

Last year, the consulate also raised 8,100USD to support people affected by flooding and landslides in Vietnam’s centralregion.

At the ceremony, the consulate handed over400 gift sets to Vietnamese people in the six provinces on the occasion of theupcoming Lunar New Year festival./.

Sea turtle nests on Lam Dong's Hon Cau island for sixth time this year

Administrative reform shifts focus to practical results

Agencies largely kept the receipt, processing and return of administrative results running continuously, openly and transparently, with citizens and firms at the centre of public service delivery. They also kept upgrading, linking and using the databases serving administrative processing, carried out tasks under the 100-day Action Plan for the Politburo's Resolution 57-NQ/TW, and rolled out new initiatives and models to lift service quality.

People-to-people diplomacy contributes to Ho Chi Minh City’s development

Ho Chi Minh City currently has 117 licensed foreign NGOs operating in areas including healthcare, education, social protection and community development.
