Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Chung comes to Dong Tam commune on April 22 (Photo: VNA) Hanoi (VNA) – Hanoi investigationpolice have launched criminal proceedings against the illegal arrest of peoplein Dong Tam commune in Hanoi’s outlying district of My Duc.
The prosecution aims to serve investigationsinto the charges of “illegal arrest, custody or detention of people” inaccordance to Article 123 of the Penal Code and “destroying or deliberatelydamaging property” as prescribed in Article 143 of the Penal Code, said MajorGeneral Doan Duy Khuong, Director of the Hanoi Police on June 13.
At the end of March, the municipal police beganlegal proceedings for the case of causing public disorder in Dong Tam commune.
During working sessions with competent agencies,a number of local residents captured and kept 38 people at the cultural houseof Hoanh village, including officials of My Duc district and officers of the Hanoimobile police force.
On April 18, 15 of them were transferred to theauthorities while three escaped by themselves.
After Chairman of the Hanoi People’s CommitteeNguyen Duc Chung visited and talked with local people, the remaining officialsand soldiers were freed.
Hanoi police are collaborating with competentagencies to further investigate the case.-VNA
