Dangerous levels of PM 2.5 measured across Bangkok

Bangkok(NNT/VNA) – Particulate Matter, or PM 2.5, levels have risen to healththreatening levels across Bangkok and its vicinity with Muang district ofNakhon Pathom the hardest hit at 79 micrograms per cubic meter.

Thailand’s Pollution Control Department (PCD) air quality measurement stationshave reported PM 2.5 levels across the Thai capital have reached detrimentallevels of between 48-79 micrograms per cubic meter. Cloudy conditions haveintensified the situation with rates measured along Kanchanaphisek roadreaching 73 micrograms per cubic meter. Levels as high as 78 micrograms percubic meter were measured in Phra Pradaeng district of Samut Prakan provinceand a reading of 79 was found in Nakhon Pathom.  

Those same areas arealso being affected by high levels of PM 10 with readings spanning 60 to 125micrograms per cubic meter. The situation is expected to improve slightly overthe course of the day.

Citizens are beingencouraged to limit their time outdoors and to wear a face mask if they need tobe out in the open. They are also urged to reduce personal vehicle usage andany burning. Public transport operators have been called on to contribute tothe effort.
