More than 3,000 women, especially the poor and Khmer ethnic groups of the northern province of An Giang, have become beneficiaries of a community development project to achieve better socio-economic living standards.

The figure was unveiled at a seminar held by the An Giang provincial Women Association in the province on June 17 to review the performance of the project and local residents’ participation from June 2010 to June 2013.

The project, with 9 billion VND (about 428,000 USD) from the Danish International Development Agency (DANIDA), was first carried out in the four communes of Chau Lang, O Lam, Van Giao and An Hao. It was then expanded to Co To and Nui Voi communes.

Thanks to the project, targeted women of the Khmer ethnic groups in the province have been equipped with skills in household economic management, healthcare and environmental protection, helping improve their spiritual and physical living conditions, thus contributing to the improvement of provincial social welfare policies.

At the seminar, 11 units and 10 individuals received certificates of merit from the province’s Women Association for their contributions to the project.-VNA
