Hanoi (VNA) - A series of events are in place to celebrate the Day of Pho (December 12) in Hanoi, in an effort to promote Vietnam’s world-famous traditional noodle dish.

The most notable event is a gala night entitled “Chuyen cua Pho” (The Story of Pho), which will be held for foreign ambassadors, the diplomatic corps, and international organisations on December 10 at the Melia Hotel in downtown Hanoi.

It will bring together renowned chefs from all over the country with their own exciting stories about pho, how the dish was created, and what it means to Vietnam’s traditional cuisine.

The gala will feature a number of well-known pho brands from the northern and southern regions, which differ in flavour and have their own unique way of cooking. Chief among these are Pho Thin Bo Ho, Pho Sam Ngoc Linh - known for making its pho broth with Ngoc Linh Ginseng, and Pho Bat Da Long Bien - which serves pho in hot stone bowls.

Those in attendance will be served pho cooked in a 100-litre ceramic pot by artisan Anh Tuyet.

Day of Pho, an initiative of the Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper, was first held in HCM City in 2017 to honour traditional Vietnamese cuisine and its iconic pho noodle soup.

A bowl of pho contains flat, soft rice noodles dipped in a fragrant beef or chicken broth flavoured with different condiments. It is served with beef or chicken and shallots and chili and lemon to taste.

The soup originated in Hanoi before making its way to the south, where people added their own influence./.
