The model of decentralised wastewater treatment came under scrutiny at a workshop held in the southern city of Can Tho on May 8.
Co-hosted by the German Technical Cooperation Agency (GIZ) and the Ministry of Construction, the event aims to share experience in piloting the model in cities and provinces nationwide, which is deemed to minimise investment and operation costs as well as make use of workforce in the community.
Some participants proposed that this model should be mentioned in urban water drainage planning or incorporated into urban development schemes.
Participants also suggested expanding the model in the time to come.
At present, wastes are being collected in dense residential areas, then treated at treatment stations in suburban areas. However, this model proves inappropriate in scattered population areas.
After the event, they also toured several decentralised waste treatment facilities in the city.-VNA
