Hanoi (VNA) – Minister of National Defence General Phan Van Giang hosted a reception for Russian Ambassador to Vietnam Bezdetko Gennady Stepanovich in Hanoi on August 4.

At the meeting, Giang said despite impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, Vietnamese and Russian defence ministries are resolved to effectively materialise their cooperation plan in 2021, contributing to consolidating and enhancing the bilateral defence ties and military technology cooperation.

The two sides have focused on online meetings and talks, training, military technology cooperation, and donation of medical supplies to serve the pandemic combat, he added.

The Vietnamese defence ministry has sent delegations to the International Army Games 2021 and the International Military-Technical Forum (Army 2021), along with two frigates to attend a naval parade in Russia’s Vladivostok city, Giang told the ambassador.

The minister lauded joint efforts to complete procedures to present orders and medals to leaders and officers of the two ministries, as well as coordination in building documents as part of the dossier marking the 70th anniversary of defence cooperation between Vietnam and the Soviet Union/Russia.

He also informed that the Defence Ministry and the Federal Security Service (FSB) of Russia are working to secure an amount of vaccines to present to the Vietnamese Defence Ministry to inoculate officers and soldiers working on the frontline of the pandemic combat.

For his part, the ambassador pledged to work to promote the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries, including the defence ties and military technology cooperation./.
