Major Gen. Jia Xiaoning was in Vietnam to attend the fifthmeeting of the Vietnam-China Steering Board for Bilateral Cooperationfrom Sept. 5-9.

Host and guest reviewed the activities andresults of defence cooperation between the two countries since thefourth session of the Steering Board.

They highlighted officialvisits by leaders of the two defence ministries, as well as exchanges ofdelegations at all levels, cooperation and joint patrols at sea and onland between the naval and border guard forces, and recently theVietnam-China Defence-Security Strategic Dialogue in Beijing .

Theyagreed that those activities contributed to strengthening thetraditional friendship and cooperation between the two armies and thecomprehensive cooperation between the two countries.

Vinh and hisguest also exchanged views on issues of mutual concern, in order tocontinue implementing defence cooperation between the two countries,with those contents expected to be approved at the fifth meeting of theVietnam-China Steering Board for Bilateral Cooperation./.

The two leaders exchanged their notes on orientations to foster the bilateral ties and agreed on specific measures to develop cooperative ties in a deeper and more substantive and effective manner, while discussing regional and international issues of mutual concern.
