- General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee To Lam met with Chairman of the Senate of the Parliament of Kazakhstan Maulen Ashimbayev in Astana on May 5 evening, within the framework of his state visit to the Central Asian nation.

Highlighting parliamentary cooperation as a key pillar for promoting bilateral relations, the two leaders expressed their pleasure with the significant progress achieved in legislative collaboration, noting that both countries have maintained high-level contacts and committee engagements, both bilaterally and at multilateral forums. - State President Luong Cuong attended the opening ceremony of the UN Day of Vesak Celebrations 2025 in Ho Chi Minh City on May 6, during which he affirmed that Vietnam always respects and protects everyone’s right to freedom of belief and religion, considering this an imporant foundation for strengthening great national unity.

- Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh presided over the Government’s April regular meeting on May 6, during which he announced the preparation for starting construction on and inaugurating 80 works and projects to mark 80 years of the August Revolution (August 19) and National Day (September 2).

Addressing the meeting to review the socio-economic situation in April and put forth key tasks for this month and the coming time, PM Chinh stressed that in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South and national reunification (April 30, 1975-2025), 80 strategic infrastructure projects and works were also commenced and inaugurated simultaneously across the country. - The agricultural, forestry and fisheries sector posted 5.18 billion USD trade surplus in the first four months of 2025, a year‑on‑year drop of 4.1%, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment (MoAE) announced on May 5.

Exports reached 21.15 billion USD while imports stood at 15.97 billion USD during the period, reported Tran Gia Long, Deputy Director of the ministry’s Planning and Finance Department. Read full story
